Apple Confirms ‘No Longer Shared’ App Bug Has Been Fixed

On Friday, an App Store bug surfaced that caused newly updated apps to fail to open when tapped, with users receiving a message stating “This app is no longer shared with you.”

The problem affected dozens of apps that had received updates, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok, and others. There was no fix at the time except for offloading an affected app and then re-downloading it, which was a hassle to do for every impacted app.

On Sunday morning, iPhone and iPad owners began noticing dozens of pending app updates in the App Store, including for many apps that had already been updated. The updates extended back as far as 10 days and appeared to have been released to address the bug causing apps to fail to open.

Apple today confirmed to TechCrunch that the “No Longer Shared” bug has been addressed and fixed for all affected customers, but did not provide details on what the problem was.

Customers who had apps that would not open should be able to use them again after downloading the relevant updates from the ‌App Store‌. Apps can be updated by opening the ‌App Store‌, tapping on your profile picture, swiping down to refresh, and then tapping the “Update All” option.

Apple Reissuing Numerous iOS App Updates, Potentially Related to Recent ‘This App is No Longer Being Shared’ Bug

Over the past few hours, a number of MacRumors readers have reported seeing dozens or even hundreds of pending app updates showing in the App Store on their iOS devices, including for many apps that were already recently updated by the users. In many cases, the dates listed on these new app updates extend back as far as ten days.

Apple has not shared any information as to why updates for these already up-to-date apps are being reissued, but some users suspect it may be related to the recent “This app is no longer shared with you” issue that was preventing some users from launching certain apps unless they are offloaded or deleted and then reinstalled.

It’s possible there was an issue with an expired certificate or other credential related to app sharing, and Apple has had to reissue these updates to include a valid certificate on each of the affected apps in order to fix the issue.

So if you’re seeing an unusual number of app updates available in the ‌App Store‌, you’re not alone.

iOS Bug Preventing Some Apps From Opening With ‘This App is No Longer Shared’ Message

An app bug is causing some iOS users to be unable to open their apps, with affected iPhone and iPad users seeing the message “This app is no longer shared with you” when attempting to access an app.

There are multiple complaints about the issue on the MacRumors forums and on Twitter from users who are running into problems. A MacRumors reader describes the issue:

Is anyone else experiencing widespread app crashes? I am suddenly being informed that “this app is no longer shared with you” from several iOS apps. When I follow the prompt to the app’s App Store page, the only option is to “open” which then just puts me back into the same loop.

Dozens of Twitter complaints suggest the issue is affecting people running both iOS 13.4.1 and iOS 13.5, and it’s not clear what’s causing the problem as not everyone appears to be affected. Some users have had the problem occur after updating apps in the last day.

There have been complaints about many apps including YouTube, Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok, LastPass, and more. We updated the WhatsApp app an ‌iPhone‌ on iOS 13.5 prior to writing this article and immediately got the error message.

People impacted by the issue have been able to fix their apps by deleting the app that’s not working and reinstalling it. Offloading the app rather than deleting it may also work to fix the problem.

DJI Announces Mavic Air 2 Drone With 8K Support, Larger Camera Sensors, and Longer 34 Minute Flight Time

DJI this week announced the Mavic Air 2, a new foldable drone that features 8K functionality, a larger 1/2″ camera sensor for higher resolution photos and videos, and upgraded flight modes. The Mavic Air 2 can also stay in the air longer thanks to better battery life.

The company said that this is the first drone in the Mavic family to offer 4K video at 60fps and 120 Mbps. The drone supports HDR video, 4X slow motion in 1080p at 120fps or 8x slow motion in 1080p at 240fps. It can record images with up to 48-megapixels and has a mechanical 3-axis gimbal to create stable footage.

The Mavic Air 2 weighs about 570 grams and features new motors, electronic speed controllers, enhanced battery technology, and an aerodynamic design. DJI said that all of this helps provide a maximum flight time for the new drone of up to 34 minutes. While it’s in the air, OcuSync 2.0 transmission technology delivers HD video to a connected smartphone at a maximum distance of 10km.

When connected to an iPhone or Android device, users will be able to take advantage of DJI’s updated Fly app, which has more advanced functionality. This includes new in-app editing features for videos and photos, all of which DJI described as user-friendly so that anyone can pick up the DJI Fly app and interact with the Mavic Air 2.

More features of the Mavic Air 2 include:

  • HDR photos: Mavic Air 2 automatically captures seven varying exposures of the same photograph, merging them together to bring out a highly dynamic image.
  • Hyperlight: Hyperlight is designed for low-light scenarios, taking multiple photographs and merging them to bring out a clear image with less of the noise which usually occurs in low-light scenes.
  • Scene Recognition: Mavic Air 2 can recognize five categories of scenes including sunsets, blue skies, grass, snow, and trees, then optimize settings to make the photograph pop by bringing out the highest degree of color, detail, and tones.
  • ActiveTrack 3.0: Select a subject for Mavic Air 2 to automatically follow. The third iteration of ActiveTrack uses state-of-the-art mapping technology and new flight path algorithms to offer improved subject tracking and obstacle avoidance, along with the ability to quickly re-engage the subject if it temporarily moves behind an object.
  • Point of Interest 3.0: Set an automated flight path around a specific subject. The updated iteration improves surface recognition to better dynamically track subjects.
  • Spotlight 2.0: Found in professional DJI drones, Spotlight locks a subject in the frame while the user has free operation of the drone’s movement.

The company also mentioned the safety features of the Mavic Air 2 in its announcement post, including obstacle sensors on the front and rear of the drone. Additional sensors and auxiliary lights on the bottom of the drone assist with automatic landing, and geofencing features help keep the Mavic Air 2 away from high-risk flying locations.

Due to current shipping restraints happening across numerous industries, the Mavic Air 2 is available today in China, while other regions will be able to pre-order the drone today with an expected shipping date in mid-May.

The Mavic Air 2 will be available in two purchasing options: a standard package with the Mavic Air 2, one battery, one remote controller, and all the required wires and cables for $799. Then there’s the Fly More option with all items from the standard version as well as a shoulder bag, ND filters, charging hub, and 3 batteries for $988.

There are several DJI drones available to purchase on Apple.com, but it’s not clear yet if the Mavic Air 2 will launch on Apple’s website soon.

Google Stops Displaying Security Warnings in Microsoft Edge, No Longer Recommends Switching to Chrome – Disposable mail news

Google has stopped advising Microsoft Edge users to switch to Chrome for a more secure experience as the browser extensions crafted for Google’s Chrome web browser are also suitable for the new Microsoft’s new Edge browser based on Chromium.

It appeared like Google stoked the flames of browser wars when it subtly encouraged Edge users to shift to Chrome by displaying warnings of potential security threats. The alert displayed by Google read that it “recommends switching to Chrome to use extensions securely”. A developer at Edge revealed that the new Microsoft Edge is designed to effectively safeguard its users from malicious extensions, that said, Edge already had Windows Defender Smart Screen and Unwanted Application protection built-in.

Whenever a user visited the Chrome Web Store via the new Microsoft Edge, Google displayed a message in yellow at the top of the webpage recommending users to switch to Chrome in order to use extensions with added safety. However, seemingly, as soon as Google realized that greeting users with a warning message which clearly implied that Microsoft Edge is less secure of a browser is not making them look good, the tech giant softened and decided to take the alert down. Not only that, Google went a step ahead and replaced the previously displayed warning with a fresh one that tells users that now they can add extensions to Microsoft Edge from the Chrome Web Store.

However, still, officially only a few extensions are supported by Microsoft Edge as the installation of all these extensions for the first will seem to be a bit complex. Users need to enable ‘allow extensions’ from other stores via the settings page. On attempting to do that, Microsoft warns that it doesn’t verify extensions downloaded from third-party stores and cautions that doing the same may cause performance issues in Edge. Then it suggests users get verified extensions from Microsoft Edge add-ons site. As soon as the users allow extensions by clicking on ‘Allow’, they will be able to add extensions to Edge from Chrome Web Store.

Google AI no longer to use Gender Labels to Tag Photos – Disposable mail news

Google’s Cloud Vision API is a Google Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool that recognizes an image and what’s in it and labels it, will no longer use gender labels like “man” and “woman”, instead it will label it as ‘Person.’
Google Cloud Vision API is a tool through which developers can attach labels to photos and identify the content.
In an email sent to users on Thursday, Google instructed that they will not use ‘woman’ or ‘man’ as physical appearance can not determine gender, the change has been done to avoid bias.

“Given that a person’s gender cannot be inferred by appearance,” reads the email, “we have decided to remove these labels to align with the Artificial Intelligence Principles at Google, specifically Principle #2: Avoid creating or reinforcing unfair bias.”
The bias that Google talks about is a result of “flawed training data,” a much-discussed topic. A flaw that results in AI algorithm making assumptions- that is anyone who doesn’t fit the algorithm of ‘man’ or ‘woman’ and will be misgendered. By labeling them as ‘person,’ Google attempts to avoid this mistake.

Frederike Kaltheuner, a tech policy fellow at Mozilla, said to Business Insider, “Anytime you automatically classify people, whether that’s their gender or their sexual orientation, you need to decide on which categories you use in the first place — and this comes with lots of assumptions.
“Classifying people as male or female assumes that gender is binary. Anyone who doesn’t fit it will automatically be misclassified and misgendered. So this is about more than just bias — a person’s gender cannot be inferred by appearance. Any AI system that tried to do that will inevitably misgender people.”

Google notes this bias in its API and AI(artificial intelligence) algorithm and seeking to change this flaw: “We will seek to avoid unjust impacts on people, particularly those related to sensitive characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, income, sexual orientation, ability, and political or religious belief.”
Any more news regarding the Tag feature is yet to be heard from Google.
