Samsung Expected to Provide Nearly 80% of OLED Displays for iPhone 12 Lineup

Despite Apple’s focus on diversifying its suppliers for various components in its products, Samsung Display is expected to still provide nearly 80 percent of the OLED displays used in this year’s “iPhone 12” lineup, according to a preview of a DigiTimes report that will be published in full tomorrow.

Samsung Display has obtained nearly 80% of the overall panel orders for Apple’s next-generation iPhone series tentatively dubbed ‌iPhone 12‌ slated for launch later this year, according to industry sources. LG Display and BOE are other panel suppliers for the upcoming iPhones.

Samsung was the exclusive display supplier for Apple’s first OLED ‌iPhone‌, the ‌iPhone‌ X back in 2017. LG came on board the following year as a second supplier, and BOE is now reportedly entering Apple’s supply chain for the 2020 phones as Apple goes all-OLED in its flagship lineup for the first time.

Apple is widely rumored to be launching four new ‌iPhone‌ models in the usual September or October timeframe, although supply constraints and delays in production ramp-up may lead to a somewhat staggered release as we’ve seen in recent years.

Of the four new models coming this year, rumors have indicated that Samsung will supply the displays for three models: the 5.4-inch entry-level ‌iPhone 12‌ and 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch “‌iPhone 12‌ Pro” models. The fourth new model, a 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ with similar specs to the entry-level model, is where BOE and LG are said to be supplying displays.

Samsung’s New Outdoor ‘Terrace’ Smart TV Supports Apple TV App and AirPlay 2

Samsung today announced the launch of a new “Terrace” 4K TV, which is designed to be used outdoors. The Terrace features an IP55 water and dust resistance rating, so it’s able to hold up to light water exposure.

Like most newly released Samsung TVs, the Terrace TV includes support for the Apple TV app, which allows users to access ‌Apple TV‌ content like iTunes movies and TV shows, and ‌Apple TV‌+. It also supports AirPlay 2, allowing it to interface with other ‌AirPlay‌ 2 devices, and Apple Music is available.

The Terrace offers a brightness level of 2,000 nits, so it works even when it’s bright and sunny outside. Samsung says the TV is ideal for sports fans with a 4K resolution and a high motion rate of MR240. There’s an optional Terrace Soundbar that offers dynamic sound, and it supports Bixby, Alexa, and soon, it will work with Google Assistant.

Pricing on the Terrace TV starts at $5,000 for the 65-inch model, with a 75-inch option available for $6,500. There’s also supposed to be a 55-inch model, but it is not yet available for purchase. Pre-orders can be made on Samsung’s website.

Samsung and SK Telecom Unveil World’s First Quantum Security Tech 5G Smartphone – Disposable mail news

The two companies have recently revealed the world’s first QRNG (Quantum Random Number Generator) 5G smartphone. The smartphone is named Galaxy A Quantum (a newer version of the A71 5G) and gives some excellent smartphone features, but QRNG technology makes it different from the rest, as it makes the apps and services prone to hacks.
The Normal Random Generated Numbers are used in multiplatform logins like payment platforms and 2 step authentication, which is easy for hackers to infiltrate.

The QRNG technology, with the world’s smallest chipset of dimensions 2.5mm by 2.5mm, on the other hand, uses CMOS image sensors and LED. The LED and CMOS sensors are responsible for emitting image noise and capturing the light, respectively, to create a random number of strings with unpredictable patterns. No technology in the industry is capable of hacking the Galaxy A Quantum, one of the most secure smartphones, says SK Telecom. However, it should be noted that the chip SKT IDQ S2Q000 is only for use with SK services. But, the tighter the challenge, the better the hackers.
The Galaxy A Quantum has a 6.7-inch super AMOLED Infinity-O display, an in-display fingerprint reader, and a full HD resolution.

A 64-megapixel main camera, 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle camera, 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor, together form the rear quad camera setup. The front camera comes with 32 megapixels. “This is the company’s first phone with a dynamic OLED panel — technology that Samsung’s marketing department is referring to as “Infinity O AMOLED.” We’re looking at an HDR10+ screen that uses “dynamic tone mapping” to improve the contrast, keep details visible even in dark spots and optimize colors when you’re saying, watching a movie. Unrelated to that, the screen also reduces blue light by 42 percent to minimize eye strain. That’s not a special night mode, mind you, but the default experience,” Engadget in its review.

It is not the first time that the two companies have worked together, in September 2019, the companies were working on first 8K TV with 5G connectivity. We hope that this won’t be the last.

Samsung Announces ‘Innovative’ Debit Card Launching this Summer

We’re still waiting to hear news about Apple Card’s performance relative to the major card issuers, but that hasn’t stopped Samsung from announcing plans to launch an “innovative” debit card as part of a new mobile-first money management platform the company has been developing over the last year.

Announced on Thursday in a blog post by Samsung Pay vice-president Sang Ahn, the forthcoming debit card is in partnership with finance company SoFi and will be backed by a cash management account.

“In 2020, Samsung Pay will be expanding our service from being a rewarding way to shop and pay, to also being a rewarding way to manage money,” writes Ahn. “Over the past year we have been busy developing a mobile-first money management platform. Our vision is to help consumers better manage their money so that they can achieve their dreams and goals. Now more than ever, mobile financial services and money management tools will play an even bigger role in our daily lives while also opening up new possibilities.”

The debit card is scheduled to launch this summer. Other than that, Samsung hasn’t offered any details on how it will work, but expect it to integrate with Samsung’s existing mobile payment system.

Launched in August 2019, ‌Apple Card‌ is a credit card linked to Apple Pay and built into the Wallet app on iPhone. Apple partnered with Goldman Sachs to launch the card, and in October the investment bank hailed it as “the most successful credit-card launch ever.” Nine months later, neither Apple nor Goldman Sachs has offered any concrete details on its performance.

During the global health crisis, Apple has introduced an ‌Apple Card‌ Assistance Program that allows ‌‌Apple Card‌‌ holders to skip their March and April payments without incurring interest charges for that billing cycle. For more details on how the card works, check out our comprehensive Apple Card guide.

Demo: Using Apple Music on a Samsung TV

Samsung and Apple have partnered to bring the Apple Music app to Samsung TVs, and as of today, the ‌Apple Music‌ service and dedicated app can be accessed on Samsung TV sets manufactured in 2018 and later.

Subscribe to the MacRumors YouTube channel for more videos.

We have a Samsung TV so we thought we’d check out how ‌Apple Music‌ works, as this is the first time that Apple has brought the ‌Apple Music‌ app directly to a smart TV.

Samsung TV owners who also use ‌Apple Music‌ on other devices will find the interface looks and feels familiar. It’s almost identical to what you see when using ‌Apple Music‌ on the Apple TV, with a navigation bar that features For You, Browse, Radio, Library, Search, and Settings.

For You features curated music picks from Apple and playlists customized to your listening tastes, while Browse houses content recommendations, more generalized playlists, radio stations, and more, with a focus on trending music and new releases.

Radio, of course, lets you listen to radio stations and Beats 1 shows, Videos houses trending music videos, and Library features your saved ‌Apple Music‌ songs and playlists and personal music stored in iCloud or added through iTunes Match.

A Now Playing tab lets you see what’s currently playing, and Search is for looking for specific songs, artists, or albums.

In our testing, the app worked well and was bug-free, and it will be interesting to see whether the ‌Apple Music‌ app expands to additional smart TVs and platforms in the coming months. Perhaps Apple will even bring other services like Podcasts and Apple Arcade to non-Apple platforms at some point in the future.

Along with the ‌Apple Music‌ app, Samsung smart TVs also have an ‌Apple TV‌ app to allow Samsung users to use ‌Apple TV‌+ and iTunes content as Apple works to expand access to its services outside of its own ecosystem.

Though Apple is expanding the ‌Apple Music‌ service to newer smart TVs from Samsung, there are still plans on the horizon for new ‌Apple TV‌ set-top boxes. Rumors suggest Apple is working on a refreshed ‌Apple TV‌ with an updated processor that could come out at some point this year.

The Worldwide Pandemic Prompts Technology Giant Samsung to Embrace Electronic Voting – Disposable mail news

There is no denying the fact that the rise of COVID-19 has taken the world by storm yet it’s very astounding that the technology sector also has been affected to a critical degree. Technology giant Samsung Electronics has thus embraced electronic voting in favor of the first run through ever during this year’s annual general meeting (AGM) on March 18, asking shareholders to utilize it to help check the spread of the worldwide pandemic coronavirus.

Samsung’s investor relations website on Monday encouraged shareholders to take the opportunity to cast a ballot via the internet up to March 17. This is on the grounds that the company directed a 1-to-50 stock split in 2018, prompting a huge increment in the shareholders numbers.

Samsung’s AGM is said to be held at a convention hall in Suwon, around 30 km (18 miles) south of Seoul, with a capacity of around 3,000 people as per reports by the centre’s website

Samsung explicitly called for electronic voting by shareholders with manifestations, or who have visited locales with high-risk districts, or who are identified as high-risk, for instance, pregnant women and those aged 65 or above. Reflecting guidance from the “Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidance”.

The shareholders’ gathering is said to be furnished with thermal cameras and contactless thermometers, and those with fever or cough symptoms might be restricted from entering.

Those with a fever at the scene will be coordinated to an area away from the main hall, the website informs.

In what is the second-biggest outbreak in Asia after China, South Korea announced 74 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the nation’s aggregate to 8,236 and hence such precautions are a must.

Samsung announces a new product Ballie – a robot companion – Disposable mail news

Samsung has launched a new product at CES 2020, named Ballie a tennis ball-like robot that rolls around following the owner. The bot Ballie has a built-in camera to follow it’s the owner and capture special moments, Samsung South Korean tech giant announced the product at CES tech show in Las Vegas.

“I love this guy,” said president and chief executive H S Kim as Ballie whizzed around the stage chasing him.

He said the product is a combination of 5g and Artificial Intelligence, both areas in which Samsung plans to focus on in 2020.

Ballie is being received with both positive and negative views. One analyst said that it seems fun but might struggle with stairs. It has roared on the internet and is already being compared with robot companions from several movies – including BB-8 from the latest Star Wars trilogy films.

Along with being a perfect robot companion, Ballie overshadows it’s owner, acts as a fitness assistant and can help in household chores like switching on smart devices at home.

“It’s fun – it reminded me of a cross between a Sphero toy and R2-D2 with the sounds it was making,” said Simon Bryant at market research firm Futuresource.

He also mentions that it’s strange that Samsung introduces Ballie with its own voice recognition ability without any mention of the company’s virtual assistant Bixby.

Paul Gagnon, an analyst at IHS Markit comments, “I can see a lot of people who will be hesitant with security and privacy concerns”. Though, Samsung assures that Ballie would strictly follow privacy and data protection standards.

Samsung has not yet revealed when Ballie will be available in the market to buy or how much it will cost.

When asked by the BBC why a product like this now, Samsung spokesman Benjamin Braun said, “There are two technologies that are helping this come to life. One is artificial intelligence and the other one is 5G. Those very much focus areas for Samsung in 2020.”

Though, Mr. Bryant said he was unimpressed by these ideas, “I thought it just smacked as a desperate attempt to move on from mobile,” he said.
