‘Apple Glass’ Rumored to Start at $499, Support Prescription Lenses, and More

Apple Reopening 25 US Stores and 12 in Canada This Week

Apple will reopen more than 25 stores across the U.S. and 12 stores in Canada this week, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The decision follows a published letter on Sunday from the company’s senior VP of retail, Deirdre O’Brien, detailing the safety measures that Apple is taking as it gradually re-opens stores across the globe. These include temperature checks conducted at the door, limited …

Apple Glasses Could Be Unveiled in Mid 2021 and Made Available to Order in 2022

Apple plans to introduce its widely rumored augmented reality glasses in March or June of 2021, according to leaker Jon Prosser.

Yesterday, reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the Apple Glasses will launch in 2022 at the earliest, so it is possible that Apple unveils the glasses in 2021 and releases them in 2022. This would be consistent with the original Apple Watch, which was previewed in September 2014 and launched in April 2015. Apple also introduced the HomePod in June 2017 and launched the speaker in February 2018.

A lengthy gap between Apple announcing and shipping the glasses could provide developers with time to create apps and experiences for the augmented reality platform, provided that an SDK is released in advance. An early announcement can also help to prevent leaks, although Prosser claims that he will be showing off a prototype of the glasses soon.

Keep in mind that Apple is rumored to be working on two separate head-worn augmented reality products, including a bulkier headset and sleeker glasses. The headset is expected to launch prior to the glasses, so there could be some confusion between the products. In any case, it does not sound like either product is imminent, so the wait continues.

iPhone 12 Lineup Said to Start With 128GB of Storage

Apple’s rumored iPhone 12 lineup will start with 128GB of storage, according to Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech. This would be twice as much base storage as the 64GB that Apple has offered for the last three years.

Prosser revealed this info in his latest video, claiming that 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will be available with 128GB or 256GB of storage and that 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro models will have 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. All four models are expected to feature OLED displays, 5G support, and a faster A14 chip.

Apple has gradually increased the base storage capacity of its newest iPhones over the years, going from 16GB to 32GB with the iPhone 7 lineup and from 32GB to 64GB with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 12 lineup in September, although at least one model might not be available to order until October or November.

Apple’s Over-Ear Headphones May Be Called ‘AirPods Studio’ and Cost $349

Apple’s rumored high-end over-ear headphones may be called “AirPods Studio” and retail for $349, according to Jon Prosser of YouTube channel Front Page Tech.

In keeping with the successful ‌AirPods‌ brand, the rumored “Studio” over-ear headphones would significantly diversify Apple’s ‌AirPods‌ lineup, which last added the in-ear AirPods Pro in October 2019. The supposed price of $349 would place “‌AirPods‌ Studio” as a direct competitor to high-end noise-canceling over-ear headphones from Bose and Sony.

Prosser has previously accurately leaked the April 15 launch date of the new iPhone SE and, most recently, the May 4 launch date of the refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple’s over-hear headphones to enter mass production in mid-2020, which may suggest a fall 2020 launch.

Jon Prosser: Apple to Announce 13-Inch MacBook Pro Refresh Today

Apple will announce a refreshed version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro today, according to Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech. Rumors have suggested that the new model could be a 14-inch MacBook Pro with slightly slimmer bezels around the display, in line with the 16-inch MacBook Pro replacing the 15-inch model last year.

The new 13-inch or 14-inch MacBook Pro is also expected to feature faster processor options and a more reliable Magic Keyboard with scissor switch keys.

iPhone 12 Lineup With OLED Displays Predicted to Start at $649, Breaking the $999 Barrier

Apple has never sold a new iPhone with an OLED display for under $999, but with the iPhone 12 lineup expected to include a wider range of models, that could soon change.

iPhone 12 pricing could start at $649 this year, according to Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech. Prosser says this information comes from his same source who accurately revealed the new iPhone SE’s launch date.

The prices would be as follows:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12: $649
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12: $749
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro: $999
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max: $1,099

All four models are expected to feature OLED displays and 5G support, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously claimed. The less expensive 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models are said to have dual-lens rear cameras, while the more expensive 6.1-inch model and 6.7-inch models are expected to have triple-lens rear cameras with a LiDAR Scanner.

Even if these prices are merely educated guesses, it is reasonable to assume that Apple will finally offer an OLED-based iPhone for less than $999 this year. Given its smaller size and lower pricing, the 5.4-inch iPhone could easily become one of Apple’s best selling iPhone models ever, especially during these uncertain times.

Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 12 lineup in September, although at least one model might not become available to order until October or November.

Leaker Claims Mobile Version of Xcode Coming to iPad

Apple could be developing a version of Xcode that runs on iPads, according to a new rumor circulating this week. The capability has been linked to the release of iOS 14 by rising Apple leaker Jon Prosser, and if true, it would enable full-scale app development to take place on Apple’s mobile devices for the first time.

Developers use Xcode to create apps for iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS. However, Xcode is a complex app and has only ever been available on Mac. While Apple offers the Swift Playgrounds app for learning about coding on mobile, it has never indicated that it has any plans to bring Xcode to iPad.

But according to a tweet posted on Monday by Prosser, Xcode “is present on iOS/iPadOS 14,” the implications of which are “huge” because it “opens the door for ‘Pro’ applications to come to ‌iPad‌.”

Responding to Prosser’s tweet, iOS developer and MacRumors writer Steve Moser noted that a hidden Xcode Preview app is present in iOS 13 that acts as a companion app for showing layout previews on device from the main Xcode Mac app. However, Prosser appears to be referring to the existence of a native full-fat version of Xcode for ‌iPad‌.

Such a step would be a big undertaking for Apple, requiring an overhaul of Xcode’s interface to take advantage of the ‌iPad‌’s primarily touch-based operating system. If successful though, it could make full-scale app development a possibility for mobile users who don’t have a Mac.

Hopefully we’ll hear more at this year’s virtual Worldwide Developers Conference, where Apple will reveal annual updates to all of its operating systems, including its plans for ‌iOS 14‌ and ‌iPadOS‌ 14.

Alleged Leaked ‘iPhone 12’ Schematics Show Speaker Integrated into Bezel to Achieve Slimmer Notch

Twitter leaker Jon Prosser has shared a pair of images that appear to be schematics of Apple’s unreleased “iPhone 12,” showing a smaller notch than the one currently found on iPhones with Face ID.

The first image looks like a photo of a CAD illustration, which are sometimes leaked from Apple’s supply partners. The second image appears to be based on the first schematic, and draws out the details of the hardware housed within the notch.

To achieve a more compact package, the redesigned hardware layout has the TrueDepth camera’s ambient light and proximity sensors in a more central position within the array, with the iPhone speaker sitting above them in the bezel of the handset instead of between them.

Unlike Apple’s marketing images of the hardware in the notch, the microphone is not pictured in either image. Prosser says it hasn’t been labelled in order to emphasize the other hardware, and that it’s actually housed next to the speaker.

Earlier this month, another leaker shared images said to depict the ‌iPhone 12‌ with a notch that is approximately 1/3 smaller than the current notch, but the images didn’t reveal details of the hardware arrangement inside.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was first to suggest that at least one new ‌iPhone‌ in 2020 will feature a smaller front camera lens for an improved screen to bezel ratio, ultimately resulting in a smaller notch at the front. More recently, sources close to well-connected Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman have corroborated rumors of a slimmer notch.

We’ve heard rumors suggesting Apple eventually plans to debut an ‌iPhone‌ design that eliminates the notch entirely, but it’s not entirely clear just how that would work as the front-facing camera still needs to be able to function even with some sensors under the display.

Apple supplier AMS last year announced new camera sensor technology that allows the RBG light and the IR proximity sensor used for the front-facing TrueDepth camera system to be embedded under an OLED display. It was thought that Apple could potentially introduce the new sensor tech in its 2020 iPhones to achieve the smaller notch, but that’s not what today’s alleged leaked schematics suggest.

Last June, one analyst with investment firm Credit Suisse in Asia said that Apple plans to offer notch-less iPhones with full-screen fingerprint authentication in 2021. However, the same analyst said Apple will launch one notch-less ‌iPhone‌ this year, and the rumor mill hasn’t swung in that direction and it’s unlikely to do so at this late stage in the yearly cycle. Regardless, Apple removing the notch on the ‌iPhone‌ is almost certainly its end goal.

New AirPods Allegedly Ready to Launch, Possibly Next Month

Next generation AirPods that were allegedly supposed to be announced at Apple’s rumored March event are ready to launch, according to Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech. Prosser believes the new ‌AirPods‌ could launch sometime next month, although he is not firm on timing yet.

It is unclear at this time as to what new features Apple’s next-generation ‌AirPods‌ will sport. One possibility is that the earphones will feature the same in-ear design as the AirPods Pro without Active Noise Cancellation.

In February, Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes made a passing reference to upcoming “AirPod Pro Lite” earphones without offering any details on the product, leading to confusion about whether this would be a third-generation version of the regular ‌AirPods‌ or a new member of the ‌AirPods Pro‌ family.

Prosser believes the new ‌AirPods‌ could launch alongside the rumored 13-inch MacBook Pro refresh next month. He also recently claimed that Apple is targeting WWDC to launch new high-end over-ear headphones and September-October to launch BeatsX-like “‌AirPods‌ X.”

Apple Reportedly Targeting WWDC for Over-Ear Headphones Launch, New ‘AirPods X’ Later in the Year

Rumors of Apple-branded over-ear headphones have been circulating for quite some time, while more recent rumors have mentioned an “AirPods Pro Lite” that could also be in the works, and Twitter leaker Jon Prosser’s recent foray into Apple rumors provides a bit more detail on what we might able to expect for these products.

Current Beats Studio3 Wireless and BeatsX

On the over-ear side, Prosser says that Apple is targeting a June WWDC debut with pricing set at around $350, putting them in the range of Beats Studio3 and Bose 700 headphones. Prosser says Apple’s codename for these headphones is B515, which matches up with leaked icons for these headphones found in an iOS 14 build last month.

As for the “‌AirPods Pro‌ Lite” previously rumored by DigiTimes, Prosser says they are likely what he has heard are referred to as “AirPods X,” which should launch in the September–October timeframe. He says these would be similar to the current BeatsX earphones, which are targeted at the sports market. He doesn’t specifically say, however, whether the ‌AirPods‌ X would have a wire between the earbuds as BeatsX do. He also says the ‌AirPods‌ X, which carry a codename of B517, will be priced at around $200, which is double the price of BeatsX.

Generally speaking, Prosser believes that Apple’s ultimate goal is to eventually phase out the Beats brand, as both of these new Apple headphones are similar to existing Beats products. That will take time, however, as Beats offers a fairly extensive line of headphone options, including the fairly new Beats Solo Pro and the Powerbeats lineup that has seen several recent updates.
